Company Overview

RFA/MN Engineering’s history dates back to 1943, when the Minnesota Engineering Company (MEC) was founded. Several tool designers left the Northern Pump Company to form their own company to support the fluctuating tool design needs of the defense industry.

MEC flourished with the simple operating principal of being responsive to the client and delivering exactly what was promised.

In 1962, Bob Rogers became the general manager of MEC and under his leadership, the company moved away from tooling design to focus more broadly on product development engineering services. In 1967, Bob Rogers and Frank Freels purchased Frontier Engineering Service Company and renamed it Rogers, Freels and Associates.

In 1970, RFA purchased Minnesota Engineering Company, forming RFA/MN Engineering. The combined permanent engineering staff created the largest multi-disciplined engineering service provider in the mid-west and became a pioneer in project based engineering services.

The company experienced steady growth through the 2000’s pointing to the company we are today with multiple secure facilities and engineering teams working at customer locations in 8 states. In 2012, 50 years after Bob Rogers joined the company, RFA was renamed to RFA Engineering. This change acknowledged the nationwide reach of our services, which has long been present outside of Minnesota.

RFA Engineering continues to build success from aligning to the unique needs of each customer and delivering world-class results.

The company was and is still owned and operated by engineers engaged in the day-to-day interaction with customers, employees, universities, and industry. Our success is rooted in the operating principals we share with those of the Minnesota Engineering Company.
