POSITION SUMMARY

The Principal Electrical Engineer provides master-level electrical engineering support to Liberty Paper through review, research, analysis, and design. The Principal Electrical Engineer provides strategic direction to ensure electrical engineering duties are executed successfully in accordance with company standards. This full-time position will report to the Engineering Manager at our Liberty Paper location in Becker, Minnesota.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs and coordinates electrical system design, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities ensuring compliance and specifications, codes, and mill requirements
  • Evaluate electrical systems reliability, performance, and safety. Performs root cause failure analysis on electrical equipment failures
  • Develop and maintain facility's electrical model in SKM System Analysis software or similar platform
  • Work with project managers on planning, development, and execution of electrical capital projects
  • Develops budgets, estimates labor, material, and construction costs for projects
  • Prepares specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies
  • Consults with other engineers, vendors, customers, other employees, contractors to discuss existing and potential engineering projects and/or assigned tasks
  • Provide mentorship, technical support, and direction to engineering, maintenance and production teams
  • Drive safety and compliance excellence through effective work execution, personally modeling safe behaviors
  • Manage outside engineering and electrical contractor resources as required
  • Other duties, as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
  • Typically requires 7+ years of experience in the field
  • 10+ Years of Previous Related Experience with Power Distribution Systems
  • Power distribution experience on low and medium voltage systems 120V - 4160V
  • Utility power systems knowledge including 13.8kV
  • Knowledge of the NEC and NFPA codes, standards, and laws that govern electrical power systems
  • Requires in-depth knowledge and experience; uses best practices and knowledge to improve products or services
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions
  • Frequently requires logical and analytical reasoning skills, seasoned judgment, creativity, and ingenuity
  • Independent decisions typically have financial, operational, legal, or image impact
  • Receives minimal guidance; works independently to achieve goals, providing expert recommendations to management
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Paper mill or heavy manufacturing experience highly desired
  • P.E. licensure preferred
  • AutoCAD and power modeling software proficiency
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with very strong attention to detail/commitment to accuracy
  • Project management skills
  • Strong Customer Service orientation, ability to adapt project plans/priorities to meet business needs as appropriate
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels within the organization; professionally represents self, and LPI to external contacts.
  • Strong and comprehensive computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Collaborative team player who maintains a positive attitude
