Hours: Monday – Thursday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Friday: 8:00 AM - NOON

JOB SUMMARY: As the safety technician, you’ll be responsible for working with all levels of employees and management to ensure compliance and a safe work environment. Managing the corporate Hearing Conservation will be one of the primary responsibilities of this position. This position will also assist managers, and supervisors in providing technical support for hearing conservation, accident prevention, and implementation of safety policies.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
  • Conducting safety inspections and developing appropriate corrective action plans
  • Researching and providing support for safety programs such as, but not limited to: hearing conservation, lock-out/tag-out, hazard communication, accident reduction, and industrial hygiene
  • Coordinating efforts with appropriate staff, corporate-wide, to reduce/eliminate occupational injuries, illness, death, and financial loss
  • Providing training for employees regarding the principles of hearing conservation
  • Conducting industrial hygiene tests, calibration, and maintenance of instruments used for industrial hygiene testing to monitor exposure to silica, lead, other airborne contaminants, and noise levels to ensure compliance with OSHA and MSHA standards
  • Entering the results and maintaining the database of IH test results
  • Measuring and analyzing dosimeter data and determining appropriate corrective action to ensure compliance with OSHA and MSHA hearing conservation standards
  • Administering respiratory exams, respirator training, and performing respiratory fit testing
  • Analyzing IH testing results to determine if corrective action is necessary
  • Ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information entered into the data management system and IH test reports developed for employees
  • Conducting hearing tests, operating audiometer and bio-acoustic simulator
  • Administering mandated program requirements for forklift certification, crane certification, hearing conservation, and elemental lead
  • Participating in ongoing safety education to consult on compliance issues, and keep up-to-date on any changes in laws and regulations that impact Coldspring operations
  • Assisting with the implementation of the medical surveillance program
  • Managing and implementing the prescription safety eyewear purchase program.
  • Developing and updating safety lockout/tagout (SALT) cards for various plant or quarry equipment
  • Observing workers to determine proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Safety is preferred, but post-secondary training with appropriate experience is also acceptable.
Experience:  3-5 years of working in the field of safety

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must have Occupational Hearing Conservation certification (OHC) or be willing to obtain certification.  
  • Must be experienced in inspecting facilities for compliance with any of the following codes or standards: OHSA Safety Standards, Life Safety Code, NFC, NEC, NIOSH, ANSI, and MSHA.
  • Must be able to analyze investigative findings to develop conclusions and recommendations for corrective action.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate technical, and regulatory information. 
  • Must have above-average personal computer skills. 
  • Must have the ability to act independently to ensure time-sensitive issues are completed.    
  • Requires knowledge of appropriate PPE use and donning/doffing procedures and the ability to train others on these techniques.
