Job Title: R&D Molding Technician Department: WG33 - R&D Project Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager Location: Ramsey Facility

Prepared By: Engineering Manager Status: Part Time - Hourly

Work Hours: (Schedules and shift assignment may be subject to change based on business needs)

1st Shift- Hours to be determined by Engineering Manager

Summary:

The R&D Mold Technician is responsible operating and maintaining various types of molding machines and equipment. In addition, they are expected to assist Engineering with new development products and projects following established processing and work instructions as needed and available. They will also perform quality checks, troubleshoot issues, and document results. They will work closely with the R and D engineers and scientists to support the development of new products and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and adjust molding machines and equipment according to specifications and instructions.
  • Utilize different types of molds, materials, and techniques depending on the project requirements and objectives.
  • Monitor and control process parameters such as temperature, pressure, cycle time, etc.
  • Employ various instruments, gauges, and software to ensure optimal molding conditions and outcomes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of molding machines and equipment.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules, identify and report any malfunctions or defects, and replace or repair parts as needed.
  • Inspect and measure molded parts for defects, dimensions, and performance.
  • Utilize tools such as calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, tensile testers, etc. to verify that the molded parts meet the quality criteria and specifications.
  • Record and report data on molding processes, results, and problems. Incorporate and navigate spreadsheets, databases, charts, graphs, etc. to document and analyze the molding data.
  • Communicate any issues or deviations to the relevant personnel or departments.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Comply with all the safety policies and procedures of the company and the industry. P
  • Protect yourself and others from potential hazards such as hot surfaces, sharp edges, chemicals, etc.
  • Assist in the design, testing, and evaluation of new molds, materials, and methods.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement based on your molding experience and knowledge.
  • Participate in trials and experiments to validate new concepts and innovations.

Qualifications.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years of experience in molding or a related field
  • A basic knowledge of molding principles, techniques, and equipment
  • A good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • A willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing needs
  • A strong work ethic and a team-oriented attitude

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently required to lift up to 40 pounds stand, climb or balance and talk or hear.
  • Using a mold cart, the employee will regularly handle mold blocks weighing up to 455 pounds. To slide a mold block, provide a lateral pushing force up to 140 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Language Ability: Ability to read and learn complex procedure and by attending trainings and reading operational manuals and other documentations. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals and write analytical reports, work instructions, procedures, and specifications.

Reason Ability: Ability to comprehend and analyze measurement data and plan and coordinate projects and to communicate effectively within the organization. Must have a high degree of initiative and be a self-starter. Candidate must have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Computer Skills: Basic knowledge and skill on PC to operate PC based analytical equipment. Database, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Minitab experience is desired. Ability to learn new software programs as required for data collection through various measurement systems.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to use hands to grasp and manipulate. The duties of this job require exposure to working near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles, UV rays, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Safety Requirements

  • Basic understanding of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and the Hazard Communication Program.
  • Closed toe shoe required with heel support.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment may require P.P.E.
  • Safety glasses and long sleeve shirts may be required where needed.
