GENERAL SUMMARY
The Lean/Continuous Improvement Manager plays a crucial role in optimizing processes within the organization and is the primary resource for supporting the Sartell plant in its Lean Transformation.  This position delivers practical training to leaders on Lean principles and practices to eliminate waste in administrative, manufacturing, and support functions.   This role ensures the development of robust Lean practices that enable a PDCA culture and a progression of the Lean journey.   The Lean/Continuous Improvement Manager leads Kaizen events and trains others to do so.  This role also provides high-level technical and operational recommendations and utilizes structured problem-solving methodologies to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost KPIs.   The Lean/Continuous Improvement Manager acts as the catalyst for continuous improvement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  • Develop and implement the Sartell Continuous Improvement Plan through collaboration with Business Unit Leaders, the Director of Municipal Operations, the Plant Engineering Manager, the Plant Manager, and other department leaders as needed.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects throughout the shop to improve safety, capacity, efficiency, and throughput. 
  • Lead or support new strategic initiatives and complex problem-solving efforts for selected high-priority issues.
  • Lead or support training on subjects such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Team Improvement Boards, problem-solving, decision-making analysis, and technology solutions.
  • Implement measurement systems or management tools in the organization aimed at driving and sustaining long-term operations improvement.
  • Challenge the status quo by providing best practice perspectives, methods, and solutions for implementation consideration.
  • Travel as needed to research, lead, or support the implementation of strategic initiatives or problems, including potential travel to other DeZURIK plants and facilities.
  • Facilitate and lead regular CI / operational improvement report-outs to celebrate wins and communicate progress to managers and the leadership team.
  • Engage with peer groups from other manufacturers to collaborate on best practice continuous improvement tools, Lean solutions, and training tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field is required.
  • 10+ years of manufacturing/operations management experience is required.
  • Experience leading Lean improvement projects is required. 
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes including engineering, machining, and assembly best practices is required. 
  • Experience leading large teams across multiple functional areas is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • High technical aptitude and ability to read/understand engineering drawings and plant blueprints are required.
  • A strong understanding of ERP and technology solutions in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • A demonstrated understanding of Lean principles such as Value Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time, Demand and Capacity Planning, Single Piece Flow, 5S, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Level Loading, Standard work, Kaizen, SPC, Six Sigma and Communication Tools and Statistical Problem Solving.
  • Good understanding of financial measurements and goals in the Lean/Flow throughput.
  • Effective presentation skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, and extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Position requires movement around the facilities.
  • Occasional handling of material and components.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal manufacturing and office environment.  When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots).  Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
